product review

naked basics: i received this eye shadow palette from my best friend for my birthday! i had heard so much praise about the urban decay palettes that i was excited to see if i could tell a big difference compared to my drugstore eyeshadow. i love it! the pigment is awesome and i really like that all of the shades are matte. i would say it is definitely a step up from any drugstore eye shadow I have tried in the past. if you don’t want to commit to the full naked palette i would definitely recommend this one!

kenra 25:i bought this hairspray after hearing Kate from The Small Things Blog talk it up for years. originally, i had bought a travel size just to see if i liked it. i really did like it and decided to buy the larger can. the 25 states what kind of hold it has. {the larger the number the stronger the hold} unfortunately i would not agree that this is a 25 hold. the nozzle also clogs up horribly!  i will not be buying this again.

ponds: i have always been super bad at moisturizing my face. i have very acne prone skin and was convinced that moisturizing my skin would encourage even more oil production and ultimately more acne. however, that is very untrue and likely my skin is over producing oil because it is so dry! this year i have made a point of moisturizing my skin and have recently started using this one from ponds. my only complaint is that is has a pretty strong ‘floral’ scent to it but other than that it has been a great product!

urban decay eyeshadow primer potion: since i started using the urban decay eye shadow i thought i may as well go all out and see how their primer worked. {i accidently bought the anti aging one. i decided to keep it because i figured it can’t hurt to start that a little early. you can find the original one here}  so far i can’t say i have noticed too much of a difference. i will keep you updated on this one, but for the price I’m just not sure I’m sold on it. honestly i really wanted to try mac’s paint pot but would have had to order that. usually my eyes are the most neglected part of my make up routine but since i have gotten some fun products I’ve had a blast experimenting and learning from other bloggers and make up tutorials.

maybelline master contour: this product was one that i was really excited to try! contouring is so trendy right now. i had really wanted to try Maskcara’s IIID foundation but decided to try this less expensive drug store brand first. the pigment in this palette is amazing. i am so impressed maybelline! a little truly does go a long way. the blush shade is gorgeous but the contour is more like a bronzer which honestly i don’t really mind it just isn’t what it is ‘supposed’ to be.  the brush it comes with is pretty worthless. i could see using it for the highlighter but that is about it.

i would love to continue to do product reviews periodically. if there is a product you are interested in let me know and I will try it out! Thanks for stopping by today!

crushin’ on |3|

swimsuit, peplum cami, dress, sunglasses, sandals

i wasn’t lucky enough to go somewhere warm for spring break, but swimsuit season is almost here! the ‘off the shoulder’ look is so trendy right now and i love how feminine this suit looks. you might get some crazy tan lines, but it is so cute i think it might be worth the risk! {i am definitely NOT crushin’ on the bottoms pictured. i prefer more coverage!}

i am really excited about this peplum cami from Old Navy. all three colors are on sale right now too! i would definitely size down with this one. {i wear an XS}

i already bought my Easter dress, but this dress is adorable! i don’t often see ‘big florals’ done well but this one nailed it.

these sunglasses are awesome. i already bought myself some blue mirrored aviators, but i think i need these too. {see my post about this new trend here!}

this year i have found myself shying away from my typical style of sandal and instead crushin’ on these!

hope you all have had a great first week of spring so far! we are headed to my parent’s for Easter and i could not be more excited to spend time with family and reflect on the wondrous sacrifice our Savior did for us on the cross.

verismo by starbucks

coffee. need I say more?

{this little coffee corner is definitely my favorite space in our apartment}

last year for Christmas Andrew’s parents surprised me with a starbucks verismo system. I had actually never heard of this machine {keurigs were all the rage} but was excited to give it a try. I instantly fell in love with the fact that not only could I make coffee, but I could also make my favorite lattes and mochas! an espresso machine was something I had wanted for a while and was excited about this 2 in 1 system.

the verismo works much like a keurig. you buy individual ‘pods’ {found at bed bath and beyond as well as all starbucks stores} allowing you to have fresh brewed single serve coffee at home. however, you are also able to buy espresso pods to make fun drinks! I have been using my starbucks verismo system for over a year now and absolutely love it! I would say the only negative I can even think of is their milk pods for espresso drinks. don’t bother with them. it is powdered milk so the taste is not my favorite. I prefer iced coffee so I just use cold milk, but they do sell a milk frother which would definitely be worth the investment. if you are in the market for a new coffee maker check this one out!

here are some of my favorite coffee recipes using my starbucks verismo system.

|iced caramel macchiato|

2 tablespoons of vanilla syrup

6 oz cold milk

1 espresso pod

drizzle of caramel sauce

handful of ice

|iced white mocha|

2 tablespoons of white chocolate sauce

1 espresso pod

6 oz cold milk

handful of ice

|iced raspberry white mocha|

{my version of caribou coffee’s berry white mocha}

1 tablespoon white chocolate sauce

1 tablespoon raspberry syrup

6 oz cold milk

1 espresso pod

handful of ice

looking back on 22

tomorrow is my 23rd birthday! i really enjoy my birthday so I’m definitely looking forward to it. i will be taking advantage of all the free goodies you can get {caribou, starbucks, cherry berry, schlotzkys!} YUM! this past year was a big year for me so I thought I’d take some time to reflect.

about a month after my 22nd birthday I married the love of my life Andrew. it was the best day ever and I am so thankful that God gave me such a wonderful man to do life with.

at the beginning of May, I finished my 2 year internship with Cru {campus crusade for Christ}

at the end of May Andrew and I made our move to Bismarck, North Dakota where he would start grad school for Physical Therapy that fall.

moving meant starting a new job, finding a new church, and making new friends all while navigating the first few months of marriage.

are you seeing a theme here? I would say the thing I learned most during year 22 was to embrace change. change is not something I do well. I really enjoy consistency! this year made me cling to the Lord because He is never changing. Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” even when every thing around me was new and different He was constant.

this past year was hard, but it was also amazing. i became a wife. i made sweet friendships with new people. i found a great church where i was able to find a place to serve. i truly can’t wait to see what year 23 brings!

spring dresses

the other day I went into target and was blown away by the amount of adorable dresses they have this season! I went into the dressing room with about a dozen dresses and these were the top contenders. all dresses {and rompers} are currently buy one get one 50% off!

the material of this dress is a little bit thicker which is perfect for north dakotan springs!

this dress has a really trendy lace up detail in the front {hard to see in the pic sorry!}

I am actually super excited about rompers being back in style!

{this exact one was on clearance but I’m loving these as well! one, two}

this one is one of my favorites! i just love the colors

this was on clearance so i bought it instantly. it is so feminine i love it!

the last few days we were absolutely spoiled with temperatures nearing the 70s! even though we are back to the 40s this week I can feel that spring is on its way. have a wonderful Tuesday friends!

style watch

 {mirrored sunglasses}

I am always on the lookout for the newest style trends! most of them I just admire from afar but don’t actually join in. this one though I am super excited about. all of my favorite bloggers seem to have at least one pair of these mirrored sunglasses. however, all of the pairs shown in these pictures are over $150 *gasp* that is definitely not in my budget for a pair of sunglasses. I did some research and found some awesome pairs all under $20!

what do you think of this new trend?

french knot bun

I have been following Kate from The Small Things Blog for quite a few years now. she has amazing hair tutorials and is just all in all  a pretty cool gal. {my husband refers to her as my “e-friend” though she doesn’t know me…at all}

this summer she posted a tutorial called “little french knots.” I decided to put my own twist on her style by making my knots quite large and pulling it back into a messy bun. this hairstyle is so easy and versatile. it is also a simple option for those of you who find braiding difficult. check out this tutorial as well as a bunch of others by Kate here!
