ask a stylist: your stitch fix questions answered

hello lovelies! as you know, i have been a Stitch Fix customer for quite some time. I love getting my box of hand selected goodies and sharing my stylist’s picks with you here on Those Pretty Pieces. recently I had the opportunity to ask one of Stitch Fix’s
lovely stylists, Talleda, a few questions about her experience as a stylist.

Stitch-Fix-Stylist-Talleda-R

What do you love most about being a Stitch Fix Stylist?

The relationships I have with my Clients are the most special thing to me about styling. We get to follow along with our Client’s through college graduations, new jobs, weddings, moves, births of their children – it’s amazing. I have Clients whose ages range from 15 to 75 and I love that no day is the same and no Fix is the same. When you really nail a Fix and your Client’s let you know you have impacted their life or helped make them feel more confident, that is the best kind of job perk.

What is the most helpful to you when styling a client? Style profile? Pinterest board? Previous feedback?

You already knew where I was headed! Yes, yes and yes. All of it helps immensely! Feedback is so incredibly helpful, especially when you fill me in on fit and style details. Letting me know if an item is fitting too long in the sleeves or tight in the thighs helps me understand your body type better and find pieces that are really personalized for you.

Do you style for women, men, maternity and plus or just one?

I am honored and privileged to style women, men, maternity, plus, petite and non-gender clients! How lucky am I?! However, some of our stylists style only women’s, it really varies. Some of our expert stylists are also on our Ask A Stylist team, and if you haven’t ever asked us a question, you should! We give free expert style advice (if I do say so myself), even if our readers are not clients of ours. Men can get in on the action as well!

– Talleda R.

thank you so much Talleda for taking the time to answer some questions for us! it is so fun to hear a little bit from ‘behind the scenes.’ did you know that Stitch Fix hires stylists in some major cities including minneapolis? hello dream job!

alaska travel guide

last week, my brother and i took a trip to Alaska! my sister and her husband moved there about a year ago and we were so excited to finally be able to go visit. it was pretty chilly and rainy for most of our trip but everything was still so beautiful. in case you are planning a trip to Alaska in the future i thought i would put together a guide of things to do while you’re there!

portage glacier cruise {~1 hour from anchorage}

this was my favorite thing we did on our trip. the weather cleared up so it was a perfect day to be out on the water. they do 5 tours a day from may 17-sept 18. the tour is very affordable and definitely worth it. for more information click here.

ride in a float plane {in anchorage}

my brother and I took a flight tour with Rust’s Flying Service. we spent most of our time flying over the cook inlet and searching for wildlife. we were able to see beluga whales, seals, bears and moose! it was such a cool experience!

they offer multiple different flightseeing tours that range from $100-$500. {note: some tours are only offered in the summer!}

hike to waterfalls

this was the first hike we did to thunderbird falls. if you look closely you can see some people closer to the falls which shows just how massive the falls are!

20170813_155201

this is barbara falls. at the beginning of the trail there was a sign posted saying that there had been a brown bear attack there only 10 days before! needless to say i was terrified the entire hike but thankfully we did not have any bear encounters and the view was worth it.

drive down the coast

driving from anchorage down the seward highway was incredibly beautiful. this photo is at beluga point. beluga whales are often seen from mid-july until august in this area.

visit local attractions

the town my sister and her husband live in is the headquarters of the iditarod! there is a museum and gift shop and we also saw these cute 2 week old puppies!

south of anchorage there is a wildlife conservation center that we visited!

we also stumbled upon a place near Talkeetna, AK that produces Birch Syrup. i had no idea that you could tap a Birch tree but they have this syrup all over Alaska. i think i will be sticking to the classic maple syrup, but it was fun little stop.

our trip was short, but we were able to do and see so much! there are a ton of different things to do in Alaska it really just depends on what you’re interested in. if you’re thinking about going, do it!

everybody knows i have been loving the off the shoulder trend so it is no surprise that i picked up this top from Lot 2029! this has got to be one of my favorite purchases this summer. i mean it has tassels! there are still a few available at Lot 2029 in Bismarck. for size reference, the elastic was pretty tight so i sized up to a large so it would fit better on my shoulders! the way i styled it here would be perfect for date night but you could pair it with white or black shorts and sandals to make it more casual!

Lot 2029 is having a Final Clearance Sale on their website! most items are under $20 and they even have jewelry on sale for $1! things are going quick so make sure to visit their website! here are some of my favorite picks:

inspiration point

27863_405383294440_1597565_n

last week my family and i had the opportunity to attend family camp at Inspiration Point Christian Camp and Retreat Center. this camp is near and dear to my heart. i started attending youth summer camp there in 2001 and came back 9 more summers after that. that week in the summer was one i looked forward to all year. it was a week where i got to grow in my faith, meet new people, and have a lot of fun. Inspiration Point was a major component in my faith journey. every year i learned more and more about God and His love for me. i left camp wanting to tell all my friends about Jesus and the sacrifice he made so that we who believe could be forgiven and made clean.

one of my favorite parts during the week at camp is the Christ Hike. the Christ Hike is where you “Step back 2,000 years into the days when Jesus walked the earth. Experience what it may have been like to follow Him…literally. Spitzer Lake serves as the backdrop to this 12-setting performance depicting highlights from the life and ministry of Jesus Christ.” the camp staff does an amazing job putting this on and even after watching it dozens of times i still find parts that stick out to me like never before. the Christ Hike is open to the public and is a must see! {the next one is July 12th at 7:45!}

Inspiration Point has a lot to offer. they have amazing staff, great food, pontoon rides, paddle boards, a game room, crafts, and the list could go on. but their highest priority is that each and every person that attends camp has the opportunity to learn more about God. you memorize scripture and sing songs around a campfire. you get to listen to phenomenal speakers and you get to experience God without the distractions of every day life.

if you’re looking for a place to recharge and refocus your eyes on Christ I definitely recommend going to Inspiration Point. they offer camps for all ages and all year round! {youth summer camps, youth retreats, family camp, marriage weekend, women’s retreat, pathfinders} to see a full list of the camps they offer and find more about this amazing place visit their website at www.ipoint.org.

A new boutique opened yesterday in downtown Fargo and i am so excited to give you a sneak peak! Onyx + Pearl is a sister store to Lot 2029 and mint + basil {a kitchen and home shop} and is equally amazing. I was told that this store was going to be more high end and sophisticated so i went into the store assuming the price tag would reflect that. however, i was pleasantly surprised to see the variety of items they had for under $50! this top caught my eye instantly! stripes + off the shoulder + ruffles. i think it was made for me! of all the boutiques i’ve come across, Onyx + Pearl definitely carries my style of clothing. i was also really impressed with their jewelry section. they had the most beautiful and dainty earrings and necklaces but also had fun statement pieces {do you see those tassel necklaces?!}!

trust me, you’re going to want to check this place out!
