mothers day gift guide

mother’s day is right around the corner have you gotten your mom a gift? i’ve heard a quote that said “when your mom deserves and island but all you can afford is a candle.” i think that quote is so true. my mom is seriously one amazing woman and she deserves so much more than i could ever give her. however, she does like candles and that seems like a good gift idea!

3-wick candle: i am obsessed with these candles from bath and body works and for mother’s day they came out with these adorable candles just for moms. with summer coming you can never go wrong with a new scent! my favorites are: cactus blossom, tiki beach and endless weekend.

write the word: this is a great gift idea! i’ve talked about these bible journals a few times on the blog. they just revamped them and i can’t wait to get my hands on them! there are 5 different journals and this particular yellow one is “cultivate joy.” you can purchase them here!

make-up eraser: ok so this one has my mom’s name written all over it. it never fails that when she comes to visit she asks for our darkest washcloth to wash her face and remove her makeup. this make-up eraser from nordstrom wipes away all of your makeup {even waterproof} with just water! say what?! i think she needs it.

stamped family necklace: these necklaces are so pretty and a personalized gift is always fun to give! the large disc can hold 15 characters and is a perfect modern idea in place of a “mothers ring.”

Stitch Fix Gift Card: want to get your mom some new clothing but have no idea what she would like? get some help from a Stitch Fix stylist by getting her a Stitch Fix Gift Card! this is especially a good idea if you don’t have time to get to a store before mother’s day. you can either print out the gift card and give it to her or send it via email!

st. tropez self tanner kit: i have heard amazing things about this self tanner. the older i get the more i try to stay out of the sun. we all want to be tan but we also need to protect our skin! this kit is limited edition and a steal of a deal!

origins masks: this gift set contains three of origins amazing face masks. i have tried the charcoal mask and it is a serious game changer! this is one of those gifts that i might just need to pick one up for myself too.

hope this helps you out as your scrambling to get your mom a gift! don’t forget mother’s day is this sunday may 14th!

happy friday lovelies!

this fun spring water bottle is from caribou coffee! you can use it as a water bottle or a tumbler.  it keeps my water cold for so long! i just love it.

normally i am a pretty neutral person but i can’t stop looking at this colorful clutch from target!

ok, you’ve heard me talk about Lipsense and even months later i am still loving it! praline rose was the second color i bought and it is my go to. if you would like to order Lipsense click here!

these $14 marble sunglasses are such a good deal!

i just ordered a fix from Stitch Fix and asked for some espadrille flats similar to these! espadrilles are really popular right now and i like them in both flats or wedges!

recently i’ve been really into graphic tees and i think i need to scoop up this one from old navy.

hope you all have a wonderful weekend! we may be heading to a barn dance tonight which i am super excited for. andrew and i love to dance so we try to take every opportunity to do that together! plus it is going to be in the 70’s all weekend! woohoo!

pink ruffle top

top {from Stitch Fix}|jeans| heels| similar clutch

how fun is this ruffle top? i received this top in my latest Stitch Fix box and knew it was going to be perfect for Easter. I love pieces that make a statement without being too over the top and my stylist nailed it with this top. ruffles are a really popular trend this spring and i think they are so flirty and fun. because my outfit is pretty neutral in color, i decided to wear a bold lip and carry this burgundy clutch. one of my favorite things about Stitch Fix is how they can cater to so many different people and each of their personal styles. while this is a top that i personally love, it may not be everyone’s style. that is what is so fun about fashion. the options are endless and you are able to create a look that is uniquely you!

can we talk about these shoes for a minute?

back in this post i talked about how i was looking for some Valentino Rockstud dupes. those heels are gorgeous and i think they add an edgy element to a basic nude pump. however, at almost $1,000 there was no way i was going to get my hands on the designer pair. i ended up finding these amazing designer ‘look a likes’ at DSW! they are under $75, comfortable, and i know i will get a ton of use out of them!

tips to get your best fix from stitch fix

if you have followed me for a while you know that I love Stitch Fix! I don’t get a box every month, but as the seasons change it is really fun to get a box of new things. there are times that I request specific items I’d like to see in my box and other times I give my stylist the freedom to surprise me with her picks. maybe you weren’t thrilled with your first fix or maybe you haven’t yet tried Stitch Fix but would like to. today i am sharing some great tips to help you get your best fix!

create a pinterest board

this is the #1 best tip I can give you. I have a board on pinterest called “stitch fix inspiration” that I share with my stylist. it gives her a visual of what my style is and what types of items I am looking for. Stitch Fix themselves pin items that are available to get in a fix so when I see something I like I make sure to pin it to my board! pinterest is where I get the most of my fashion inspiration so it just makes sense to share that with my stylist!

leave a note for your stylist

at the end of your style profile, you are able to leave a note for your stylist.  this note can include specific items you’d like to see in your fix, events that you have coming up that you would like items for, or even just more information about your style. one thing I am sure to include in that note is that I live in North Dakota. I wear sleeves 80% of the year so it is good for them to know that sending me a ton of sleeveless items is not very practical. in my last fix I mentioned that I was looking for something to wear for Easter. my stylist totally nailed it and sent me that adorable blush ruffle tank that I am planning to style with my white denim!

be extremely specific in your feedback

I think the more specific you are in your feedback, the more your stylist will understand your style. there are times when the style of a top is spot on, but the pattern is not my favorite. this way my stylist knows I like that style of shirt but would like it more in a different pattern or solid color. do not feel like you are being too picky. your stylist has never met you and this is a great way to help them pick items that are your style.

when you find a stylist you love, request them

when you receive your fix, they send you a style card with a personalized note from your stylist. if you receive a fix that is spot on, make sure to keep that card because you can request that same stylist to continue curating your fixes! isn’t it the best when somebody just “gets” your style?!

keep an open mind

one of my favorite things about Stitch Fix is the surprise factor every time I get my box.  it is so fun to have my fix delievered right to my door and see what my stylist has picked for me. there are times that my stylist picks out something I would never think to pick for myself but when I put it on I absolutely love it! they are the experts so trust them and have some fun!

this weekend I celebrated my 24th birthday! it was such a good day spent with my husband and close friends. here is a quick recap of the weekend!

I am a firm believer that you MUST take advantage of all the free goodies on your birthday. most of the birthday freebies are from coffee shops and that is totally fine with me. we began the day at caribou {surprised? didn’t think so} and hit up two more throughout the day.

{jeans, sneakers}

{iced vanilla latte at Caribou Coffee, white chocolate mocha with a pump of almond flavoring at Gloria Jeans, and a caramel macchiato at Starbucks}

andrew took me to olive garden for dinner which was delicious. chicken gnocchi soup anyone? we don’t eat out very often so it was really fun to go on a date!

{tee, jeans}

we ended the night celebrating with friends over cake { which this beautiful friend of mine made and decorated} and ice cream while watching our march madness brackets die a slow and painful death. {i’m looking at you Nova….}

{jacket is new from stitch fix similar here, jeans}

on sunday, my husband took me to see beauty and the beast! have you seen it? it was so good! i had very high expectations and was not disappointed. they stuck close to the original story line, the music was amazing, and emma watson was phenomenal as Belle. we really enjoyed it!

thank you so much to everyone who made my birthday so special! can’t wait to see what year 24 has in store!

april’s fix

I am so excited to be sharing with you one of my dearest friend’s first fix from Stitch Fix! April and I met when our husbands began graduate school for physical therapy in the fall of 2015. neither of us knew anybody in our new town and were both working hard to support our families and help our husbands through school. we instantly became friends and I feel like I have known her forever. it has been such a blessing to have a friend who is in the exact same stage of life as I am and I am so thankful for her friendship. I could go on and on but basically what I’m saying is “Apes you’re the best!” now lets look at her Fix!

April works as a physical therapy assistant and you will most often see her in athletic wear. these leggings and this top were perfect for her lifestyle! the leggings could have been longer {April is 5’11”} but overall it was a great athleisure look!

this jacket was amazing! we both love olive green and the jacket had coral trim by the zipper that gave it some spring flare.

I wish you could feel this top. it is one of the softest fabrics I have ever felt! she loved everything about it from the marled fabric, the slit on the sides, and the fact that it is slightly longer in the back than the front. it was definitely a winner!

scarves are so practical for where we live because even in the spring it is quite chilly. it is a perfect piece to transition from dark winter colors to fun light spring colors!

when I asked April what she thought of her first Fix she said “this was my first Stitch Fix box ever! I was a little skeptical if they would send items I would really like and if they would be close to my budget, but man was I wrong! they sent several pieces I totally fell in love with. the best part was that it was all a little surprise waiting to be opened! overall i would give my stylist and Stitch Fixa 5 star rating and thanks to Lo for convincing me to try it

cognac crossbody |stitch fix no. 7

in a recent “crushin’ on” post I talked about a purse I had my eye on for spring. I was so thankful that my stylist saw that post when she was curating my Stitch Fix and sent me this awesome cognac crossbody! it is a perfect size and even has an expansion section on the bottom. i am really impressed with the quality and love the herringbone lining! this bag is a perfect replacement for the black tote i have been carrying now that we are heading into spring.  if you’d like to request this item in your next Fix it is called the “Octavia Brooks Crossbody Bag.”

the weather here has been absolutely gorgeous! our 50+ inches of snow is melting away and coat wearing has been optional. i’ve been slowly bringing out warmer weather pieces like these lace up flats to add to my outfits and it is getting me excited for spring!  I know it is only february, but i am really ready for warmer weather to be here to stay!
